French qualifying adjectives have two functions :
Epithet
and
Attribute
01-Epithet function :
In French, the epithet adjective can be placed before and after the qualified noun. But, colors are placed at the after nouns
Example
je vends une belle
voiture
: I sell a beautiful car.
j'ai eu un nouvel ami
: I have had a new friend.
le lion est un animal
dangereux
: the lion is a dangerous animal.
j'ai un chat noir
à la maison
: I have a black cat at home.
02-Attribute function :
In French, the attribute adjective
is placed after the qualified
noun and it is separated from the noun by verbs like
:
Etre (to
be).
Sembler (to
seem)...
Example
mon frère est court
: my broth is short.
tu es malade
: you are sick.
le lion est
dangereux
: the lion is dangerous.
mon chat est noir
: my cat is black.
tu sembles heureux
: you seem happy.
